The vestibular system, along with vision and sensation, provide the brain information about motion and your body’s position in space. When any of these are impaired, your body experiences this mismatch of information as a sense of imbalance. The vestibular system includes the parts of the inner ear and brain that help control balance and eye movements. If the system is damaged by disease, aging, or injury, vestibular disorders can result, and are often associated with vertigo and dizziness.
